Position Title: UX Designer 4

Position Description: Protingent has an exciting contract opportunity for a UX Designer 4 with our client located in Redmond, WA. This role is fully remote

Job Description:
  • The main function of a UX/UI Developer is to develop, create, and modify user interfaces through and understanding of end-user needs.

Candidates will benefit from a collaborative environment with other information architects, and the chance to develop skills in navigation design, user research, and using tools like GitHub.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Purpose of the Team: The purpose of the Learn Site Experience Team manages the Learn platform, which centralizes all of documentation, training, credentialing, and Q&A related to building with products. Their users are primarily technical users or those trying to create something with products. The team centrally manages all navigation on the site, ensuring that the large volume of content is organized and accessible. They handle requests for new navigation bars, updates to existing ones, and ensure that these changes adhere to brand guidelines and standards.
  • Key projects: This role is for an Information Architecture and involves ongoing maintenance of the Learn platform, with a focus on managing navigation updates and improvements. One key initiative is addressing a backlog of improvements based on data and user research. This includes testing various elements, analyzing data, and implementing enhancements across the site's headers. The work involves both responding to incoming requests and proactively identifying and making necessary changes to improve the user experience.
  • Typical task breakdown and operating rhythm: The role will consist of the following:
    • 20% Meetings and Coordination: Attending meetings to discuss ongoing work, upcoming projects, and necessary navigation updates.
    • 30-40% Data Analysis and Research Review: Reviewing data on navigation performance, setting up or reviewing user research results, and prioritizing changes based on insights.
    • 10% Customer Service Management: Handling requests from content creators, explaining decisions, and managing expectations.
    • 40% Making Changes and Managing Content: Editing YAML files, managing pull requests in GitHub, and implementing navigation updates.

Job Qualifications:
  • Must Have Familiarity and demonstrated experience with Navigation Design: Experience in designing and implementing navigation structures
  • Must Have Familiarity and demonstrated experience with Tree Test Design: Familiarity with designing and conducting tree tests for user research
  • Must Have Familiarity and demonstrated experience with GitHub: Basic understanding of version control and managing pull requests
  • 8-10 overall years of experience in the field. This time can include the time spent obtaining master’s degree in a related field.
  • No degree is required to be eligible for this role.
  • The ideal candidate for this niche Information Architecture role should have experience managing large-scale platforms efficiently, strong customer service skills, and familiarity with navigation design, tree test design, and GitHub. They should be able to handle competing stakeholder priorities, apply standards in an enterprise environment, and work proactively to manage their workload. A relevant degree is valued but not required if they have significant on-the-job experience.
  • Understanding of information architecture principles for creating digital user experience
  • Use of taxonomy best practices and internal documentation to guide decision-making
  • Familiarity with designing and executing user research methods for testing information architecture, especially card sorts and tree tests
  • Ability to document standards and guidelines
  • Strong verbal/written communication skills. Must be able to communicate effectively at all levels across the organization.
  • Working with commercial taxonomy management software (preference for PoolParty experience
  • Experience using GitHub to make and merge changes

Job Details:
  • Job Type: Contract
  • Location: Fully Remote
  • Pay Range: $56/hr. to $72/hr.
