Position Title: Electrical Design Engineer 4

Position Description: Protingent Staffing has an exciting direct hire opportunity for Electrical Design Engineer 4 with our client that is fully remote.

Project Description
Responsible for design engineering of electrical systems. Additionally, oversees and coordinates work flows and schedules with designated subcontractors. Possesses excellent knowledge of functional disciplines and their practical application and has detailed knowledge of applicable industry codes and regulations. Responsible for making technical decisions in regards to electrical system design and application to ensure compliance with NRC regulatory criteria.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Applies expert level engineering principles, techniques and practices in the preparation and/or review of Electrical system design work products such as, one-line diagrams, logic diagrams, system and equipment requirement specifications, system design documents, engineering studies, engineering calculations, engineering reports, hazard analyses, and inspections, tests, and analysis acceptance criteria (ITAAC).
  2. Plans and coordinates detailed aspects of the engineering work. Supports preparation of work scope and schedule for assignments.
  3. Compile functional and design requirements into component and system design with consideration for system interfaces, manufacturability, serviceability and in-service inspection.
  4. Develops department R&D needs and contributes to methodology development.
  5. Interprets scope and project requirements and develops design alternatives. Plans, organizes, and performs complex assignments in a team environment.
  6. Applies experience in the design, testing and installation of process control and automation systems.
  7. Provides mentoring and technical direction to less experienced engineers. Serves as a technical lead for the design of systems, structures, and components. Responsible for results and engineering oversight.
  8. Regularly interacts with directors and/or major clients. Creates formal networks and may serve as an internal and/or external spokesperson for the organization regarding specialized projects or programs.
  9. Provides oversight and direction to key suppliers of Electrical systems and components. Also, coordinates design interfaces with other disciplines and partners associated with the I&C systems.
  10. Acts as a primary interface to regulatory agencies concerning Electrical design principles of assigned Electrical systems including supporting audits, Requests for Additional Information (RAI), and meetings.
  11. Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications:
  • A minimum of a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering (power option preferred), from a four year ABET(MRA/MOU) accredited college or university.  A professional engineer license registration or advanced degree is considered.
  • A minimum of 8 years progressively responsible experience within commercial nuclear power, in a design and/or systems engineering organization, or Navy nuclear power experience, is required. 
  • Must be able to demonstrate experience with neutron monitoring. 
  • Candidate are required to have exceptional communication, computer, presentation and interpersonal skills as well as strong technical writing and organizational skills and the ability to manage complex projects with multiple work phases.   
  • Must be able to learn new job functions and comprehend and understand new concepts quickly and apply them accurately in a rapidly evolving environment as well as swiftly understand and integrate new information, and tasks, facilitating seamless adaptation to project demands. 
Nice To Have:
  • Education:  A minimum of a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering (power option preferred), from a four year ABET(MRA/MOU) accredited college or university is required.  A professional engineer license registration or advanced degree is considered.
  • Experience: A minimum of 8 years progressively responsible experience within commercial nuclear power, in a design and/or systems engineering organization is required. US Naval nuclear power experience may be credited for up to 5 years of commercial experience. Must be able to effectively communicate and collaborate with team members, stakeholders and clients in a remote setting. Utilize remote communication tools such as video conferencing, chat platforms, and project management software to facilitate seamless collaboration. Preferred experience includes:
    • Experience in the design and installation of stationary DC, AC distribution, cable and raceway systems as well as development of testing and installation procedures for this type of equipment for commercial nuclear plants.
    • Commercial nuclear power, in a design and/or systems engineering organization.
    • Proficient in performing comprehensive electrical calculations for power plant, encompassing load flow analysis, short circuit studies, and coordination studies.
    • Demonstrated ability to incorporate Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) regulations and guidelines into system design requirements for nuclear power plants.
    • Proficient in mapping NRC regulatory requirements to specific system design parameters.
    • Cross-functional Operations experience such as Shift Technical Engineer or Plant Certification.
    • Demonstrated project management skills.
    • Familiarity with Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) standards: 1188,1187, 946, 485, 308, 741, 379, 384, 323, 344, 535, 242, 141, 665, and 80.
  • Industry Requirements:  Eligible to work under Department of Energy 10 CFR Part 810.
