Job Description
Position Title: Health Physics Technician
Position Description: Protingent has an exciting direct hire opportunity for a Health Physics Technician with our client in Bellevue, Washington.
Job Requirements:
- Conduct radiation surveillance activities and radiological hazard analyses as required.
- Serve as subject matter experts, provide operational radiation safety support, and serve as points of contact for company radiation workers.
- Ensure company radiological activities are compliant with pertinent regulations and company policies.
- Provide operational/laboratory support to ensure appropriate instruments and equipment are functional and adequate to support company operations.
- Administer the Radiation Protection Program with oversight from the RSO.
- Perform contamination surveys.
- Maintain and generate required radiological documents.
- Perform receipt surveys on incoming radioactive material.
- Review and complete shipments of Class 7 Radioactive Material.
- Write radiation work permits for non-routine tasks.
- Maintain and calibrate radiological instrumentation.
- Assist in maintaining inventory and supplies of health physics materials and equipment.
- Perform decontamination as necessary.
- Effectively communicate radiation protection requirements to personnel.
- Serve as subject matter expert in the training and qualifications of laboratory personnel on ALARA policy, surveys, and proper instrument use.
- Generate, follow, review, and update standard operating procedures.
- Perform other tasks and duties as specified by the company Radiation Safety Officer.
- B.S. degree with 2+ years’ experience as a health physics technician or equivalent work experience required. A degree in Radiological/Health Science or a related technical discipline is desired.
- Experience in planning, overseeing, and reviewing radiological work within radiation areas and contamination areas preferred.
- Experience using radiation detection instrumentation: swipe counters, ion chamber, GM meters, gamma counters, and gamma spectroscopy systems.
- Must be able to perform physical tasks with and without respiratory protection.
- Must be able to wear PPE, personal dosimeter, and respirator.
- Ability to work a modified schedule and overtime as workload and project schedules dictate.
- The successful candidate will possess a high degree of trust and integrity, communicate openly, and display respect and a desire to foster teamwork.
- Military experience is a plus!
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to interface effectively with employees, management, and regulators as required.
- Must be flexible and able to quickly adjust to new or changing projects/tasks and schedules.
- Ability to function independently, demonstrating self-motivation and initiative.
- Strong organization and time management capabilities, including coordination and prioritization of multiple projects and tasks.
