Position Description: Protingent has an exciting contract opportunity for a Hardware Design Engineer 5 with our client located in Reston, VA. This is an onsite role with flexible days.

- Looking for a diverse set of talented and focused people to accelerate the delivery of useful quantum computers. The organization has an internal program pursuing topological qubits for large-scale quantum computing. We are also working closely with a growing list of companies to advance their qubit hardware modalities Quantum platform.
- The quantum product acceleration team is looking for a quantum hardware engineer to understand, design, and integrate quantum chips and relevant hardware on the quantum plane of a quantum computer. You will help accelerate progress and bridge the gap between the hardware engineers making and measuring qubits, such as quantum dots, superconducting circuits, and topological qubits, with members of the architecture, software, and systems integration teams at the organization and with partner companies in the Quantum platform. Candidates with significant backgrounds in experimental qubit design, fabrication, and test are desired. You will work alongside talented hardware and software engineers---both within the organization and with our partners---in a start-up like environment that values speed and people with broad skillsets.
- The main function of a quantum hardware design engineer is to research, design, develop, and assist in testing quantum devices and relevant hardware. They must bridge the gap between the fundamentals of solid-state components---such as quantum dots, superconducting circuits, and topological qubits---with the quantum architecture and other hardware and software layers of a quantum computer.
Job Responsibilities:
- Purpose of the Team: The purpose of this team is manufacture and install computer related equipment and components.
- Analyze information to determine plan layout, including type of computers and peripheral equipment modifications.
- Key projects: The main function of a hardware engineer is to research, design, develop, test computer or computer-related equipment for commercial, industrial, military, or scientific use.
- A typical hardware engineer is responsible for the manufacture and installation of computer or computer-related equipment and components.
Job Qualifications:
- Must Have Demonstrated ability to build cryogenic experiments and measure solid-state qubits.
- Must Have Demonstrated deep practical knowledge of solid-state (semiconductor and/or superconducting) device physics in domains relevant for quantum computer development.
- Must Have Demonstrated deep knowledge of approaches to solid-state quantum computer control and architectures at the quantum plane.
- Must Have Ability to tie scientific progress and milestones to product and product acceleration timelines.
- Must Have Demonstrated creativity, exceptional verbal and written communication skills, and analytical and problem-solving ability.
- Must Have Able to work in fast moving environment with team members who are geographically separated.
- 10 overall years of experience in the field.
- PhD in Physics, Quantum Information Science, or a related discipline.
- The ideal resume would contain Word, PowerPoint, Teams.
- Must be willing and able to travel (domestic and international) to support program activities (25%).
Job Details:
- Job Type: Contract
- Location: Washington DC/Reston, VA (Onsite).
- Pay Range: $91/hr. to $126/hr.
- An offer of employment is contingent on successfully passing a background check, and applicants who do not successfully pass a background check will not be considered for employment.
- ITAR obligations are associated with this role, U.S. citizenship, U.S. legal permanent resident status, or protected person status under 8 U.S.C. § 1324b(a) (1), (3) is required.
