Position Title: Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) Specialist

Position Description: Protingent has an exciting Direct Hire opportunity for an Environmental Health & Safety Specialist for our client located in Burbank, CA. 

Job Responsibilities:
  • Will use established procedures and work under general supervision of the Environmental Health and Safety Manager to implement and maintain company policies adhering to local, state and federal environmental, health and safety regulations.
  • Will be involved in the design and development by the EH&S Department of the manufacturing, work areas and work procedures and implements environmental, health and safety initiatives.
  • Shall be familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the environmental health and safety field. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of complex tasks, multitasks and stays focused. A certain degree of creativity and latitude is required.
Specific Job Functions:
  • Ensure compliance with all environmental, health and safety regulations.
  • Create, maintain, and update safety and environmental procedures/programs in accordance with applicable regulations.
  • Implement and monitor company environment, health and safety (EHS) programs and policies to ensure compliance with federal, state and local environmental health and safety regulations.
  • Focus on continuous improvement of EHS programs in processes, systems, and products.
  • Engage all employees to take ownership of EHS, conduct safety audits, safety committee meetings, ergonomic evaluations and emergency supply inspections.
  • Advise management of conditions requiring corrective actions.
  • Conduct accident investigations to determine thorough root cause and produce and maintain necessary documentation.
  • Conduct PPE assessments.

  • Conduct job hazard assessments to identify and mitigate hazards in the workplace.
  • Advise manufacturing departments on accident-prevention and safety enhancements.
  • Coordinate safety training classes, schedules and programs.
  • Conduct new hire safety orientation.
  • Keep current with changes to laws and regulations that impact the organization and communicate them appropriately.
  • Conduct Storm Water inspections and sample collections.
  • Conduct SPCC Inspections
  • Obtain and renew all required EHS related permits.
  • Prepare and file all reports required by permits and regulatory agencies.
  • Maintain the site pollution prevention plan and sustainability project identification and execution.
  • Assist in instructing departmental personnel on the proper handling of chemicals, GHS labeling and disposal of hazardous waste.
  • Obtain waste analysis and accumulation of data required for proper profiling, labeling, placarding, and transportation.
  • Manage the hazardous materials and waste storage areas; guide receiving and factories for proper storage of hazardous materials and waste as well as waste minimization projects.
  • Coordinate with hazardous waste transport company for proper removal and disposal of waste from site.
  • Track hazardous waste, their disposal and maintain documentation including account billings.
  • Identify and investigate methods to reduce hazardous waste by alternative manufacturing, materials, processes and recycling opportunities; Implement recommended changes.
  • Perform weekly checks for proper storage, labeling, disposal of hazardous waste and materials and maintain inspection log sheets.
  • Be a participant of the Emergency Response Team.
  • Work with stakeholders in the organization during space planning, building expansions and/or other changes in facilities or work areas to ensure EHS requirements and regulations are met.
  • Assist in the implementation of EHS projects such as hazardous communication training, air inventory logs, carne and hoist safety program, PPE selection, machine guarding, lockout/tagout training, etc.
  • Maintain current chemical inventory and approve new chemicals to the facility.
  • Perform other duties as required by Management.

Job Requirements:
  • 1-3 years of relevant EHS work experience in a manufacturing environment or production floor (not distribution centers) 
  • BS degree required.  Ideally a BS in Environmental Safety and Health Science or equivalent experience.
  • Certifications in First Aid, CPR, AED, HAZWOPER, Emergency Response, CIH, Forklift Trucks, Fall Protection, & DOT are preferred.
  • Both business knowledge and technical understanding in EH&S area
  • Excellent working knowledge and understanding of applicable environmental health & safety rules, laws and codes including OSHA (MUST HAVE) /CALOSHA.  CFR’s, CCR's, EPA, SCAQMD, DOT, and RCRA.
  • A basic understanding of industrial chemicals and their properties.
  • Ability to use Windows based software programs such as Word and Excel, PowerPoint
  • Capability to guide teams without a formal management role.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strong teamwork, interpersonal, problem-solving, and analysis skills.
  • Ability to work well with representatives of government and regulatory agencies.
  • Exhibit sound judgment and professionalism in all situations.
    Self-directed, with demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and assess priorities effectively.
  • Willingness to investigate potentially hazardous situations.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct stand up presentations.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact with internal and external contacts.

Preferred Experience:
  • Bachelor of Science in EHS

Job Details:
  • Job Type - Direct Hire
  • Location:  Burbank, CA-Onsite Onsite M-F normal first shift hrs. with flexible schedule. (Must be willing to work overtime and weekends if necessary.  Relocation assistance possible)
  • Salary: $79K-101K DOE
  •  ITAR obligations are associated with this role, U.S. citizenship, U.S. legal permanent resident status, or protected person status under 8 U.S.C. § 1324b(a) (1), (3) is required.
  • An offer of employment is contingent on successfully passing a drug test and background check, and applicants who do not successfully pass both the drug test and background check will not be considered for employment.
