Mechanical Engineer - Machine Design
Job Description
Position Description: Protingent Staffing has an exciting Direct Hire opportunity located in White Salmon, WA.
Job Responsibilities:
- Work with teammates and management to fully understand and meet or exceed customers’ requirements.
- Develop machine design concepts to meet customer and internal needs and translate them into functional and efficient manufacturing systems.
- Develop and perform machine system testing to ensure robustness and reliability.
- Coordinate with vendors and internal machine shop to procure system components on schedule.
- Participate in the discovery, evaluation, prioritization and implementation of improvements to machines and processes.
- Create and maintain clear and accurate machine documentation: requirements, plans, drawings, solid models, analyses, BOMs, operating instructions and required operator training.
- Apply resourceful and hands-on approach with a wide range of fabrication methods, materials and mechanical equipment.
- Lead, guide or coordinate the efforts of teammates when required.
- Perform various other assigned tasks, responsibilities and projects.
Job Qualifications:
- BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering and at least five years of related experience.
- Proven ability to design, fabricate and commission equipment for industrial applications.
- Experience with control system and programming of control systems (PLCs).
- Able to competently perform engineering calculations based on first principles.
- Can demonstrate exceptional hand sketching and solid modeling skills in Catia or SolidWorks.
- History of creative design with examples of past innovation on complex machines.
- Skilled in detail-oriented design including: documenting design intent, analysis, models and drawings
- Possess a deep understanding of reliable and robust machine design principles.
- Experience in composite design, analysis and tooling a plus.
- Experience with heat transfer and thermodynamics a plus

I joined Protingent in the Spring of 2021 as a sales intern, transitioning to a full-time Technical Recruiter after graduating from the University of Washington in June 2021. Initially, I focused on supporting our spaceflight clients, later expanding to industries such as sustainable energy and nuclear power. While I’ve broadened my recruiting scope, I’m still partial to aerospace engineering, especially anything related to propulsion technology.

When I’m not recruiting, I love spending time outdoors – hiking, camping, roller skating, reading in parks, and swimming in Lake Union (when the Seattle weather permits). I also enjoy thrift shops, sewing/up-cycling clothes, and shooting 35mm film.
