Test Engineering Technician - Weekend Shift
12950 Willows Road NE Kirkland, WA 98034 US
Job Description
Position Title: Test Engineering Technician
Position Description: Protingent Staffing has an exciting Direct Hire opportunity for a Test Engineering Technician located in Kirkland, WA.
Job Description:
- This role is a vital link between Design and Production, specializing in the development, construction, and validation of specialized test equipment and fixtures used for R&D and formal product qualification.
- The ideal candidate performs advanced troubleshooting on both complex electronic units and the test systems themselves, working closely with Design and Test Engineers to ensure product reliability and manufacturing test readiness.
- The ideal candidate is a "technician’s technician"—someone who can not only build a test rack from a schematic but can also perform bench-level component repair on the test system’s internal circuitry when failures occur.
Job Responsibilities:
- Test Equipment Development & Construction: Designing and building specialized test fixtures, cable harnesses, and prototype circuits from complex schematics, wiring diagrams, and engineer direction. Assisting in the selection, setup, validation, construction, calibration, and documentation of new, high-precision test equipment and measurement systems.
- Advanced Troubleshooting & Maintenance: Leading advanced electrical, mechanical, or software troubleshooting to diagnose complex hardware and networking problems in non-functioning test equipment. Performing operational testing and fault isolation on systems using diagnostic tools (oscilloscopes, signal generators, etc.) and executing preventive and corrective maintenance on test fixtures, thermal chambers, and vibration systems.
- Engineering Collaboration & Training: Actively collaborating with Test and Design Engineers to develop, document, and execute formal test plans. Contributing to long-term reliability improvements by helping to determine remedies for equipment malfunctions. Training and mentoring Production Test Technicians on the proper use, calibration, and maintenance of newly developed test equipment and procedures.
- Working from schematics, diagrams, written/verbal descriptions, or defined plans to perform testing, checkout, and trouble-shooting functions on prototype and production units.
Job Qualifications:
- Education/Experience:
- Associate degree (AS) in Electronics Technology or a related technical field, or equivalent electronics military schooling (e.g., Navy ET, Army 15Y/94-series, Air Force 2A) is required.
-
2-5 years of progressive, hands-on experience as an Electronics or Engineering Technician, with a minimum of 2 years directly supporting R&D, Design, or Test Equipment Development activities. This is a more advanced technician role requiring in-depth experience.
-
Experience with high-power electronics, avionics, RF systems, or environmental testing (Thermal/Vibration) is highly desirable. Experience with environmental chambers (thermal/vibration) is a significant plus.
- Technical Expertise:
- Investigate a failure on a Circuit Card Assembly (CCA) down to the component level. Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot a CCA to the piece-part level and perform precision soldering/rework.
- Expert-level ability to read and interpret complex schematics, wiring diagrams, and assembly drawings for troubleshooting and construction.
- Test System Focus: Proven experience troubleshooting the test equipment/apparatus itself rather than just the end-item product.
-
Proven proficiency with Data Acquisition (DAQ) or control software, such as LabVIEW, Python scripting, or similar specialized test sequencers.
-
Advanced knowledge of electronic circuit boards, processors, chips, and the ability to integrate hardware with control software, including strong circuit knowledge and troubleshooting (T/S) skills.
-
Demonstrated experience in the fabrication of test equipment, including wiring, Circuit Card Assembly (CCA) installation, connector termination (cannon plugs, etc.) and hardware validation of the equipment.
-
Proficiency with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software and strong competency with Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel) for data analysis and reporting.
