Senior Embedded Software Engineer, Linux
Job Description
Position Description: Protingent Staffing has an exciting contract opportunity located in Long Beach, CA.
Job Responsibilities:
- Design and develop embedded Linux applications and system services for networking and camera products
- Implement software that interacts with hardware peripherals, networking subsystems, and video pipelines
- Develop and maintain high-performance, reliable software running on embedded SoCs
- Work closely with hardware, systems, and platform teams to integrate new boards and peripherals
- Debug complex issues across hardware, kernel, drivers, and application layers
- Participate in system bring-up, validation, and performance tuning
- Contribute to software architecture and code quality improvements
- Support testing and troubleshooting in both lab and field environments
Job Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience developing software for embedded systems
- Strong programming skills in C/C++
- Experience developing applications on embedded Linux platforms
- Experience debugging using tools such as gdb, strace, perf, tcpdump, etc.
- Familiarity with Linux networking and system programming
- Experience working with cross-compiled systems and build systems
- Strong debugging skills across hardware and software boundaries
Preferred Job Qualifications:
- Experience with camera pipelines, video processing, or multimedia frameworks
- Experience with network switching, routing, or networking protocols
- Familiarity with low-level embedded development (MCU, RTOS, or bare-metal)
- Experience with hardware bring-up and board support package
- Experience with Yocto or similar Linux build systems
- Experience developing or modifying Linux device drivers
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automated testing for embedded systems
Job Details:
- Job Type: Contract
- Location: Long Beach, CA.
- Pay Rate Range: $60-80/hr.
- ITAR obligations are associated with this role, U.S. citizenship, U.S. legal permanent resident status, or protected person status under 8 U.S.C. § 1324b(a) (1), (3) is required.
