Job Description
Position Description: Protingent Staffing has an exciting contract Welding Engineering opportunity located in Pittsburgh, PA.
Job Responsibilities:
- Conduct orbital tube welding on critical spacecraft components, including propulsion systems, pressure vessels, and other vital structures.
- Ensure all welding activities meet industry standards and safety regulations.
- Working with a team of welders and integration engineers to complete spacecraft integration activities.
- Following schedule requirements and integration plans to support milestone dates.
- Implement and adhere to industry standards, maximize efficiency, and maintain consistent quality.
- Work with a variety of aerospace materials, including but not limited to titanium, aluminum, stainless steel, and exotic alloys, to ensure proper welding procedures are followed for each material type.
- Conducting thorough inspections and tests of welded joints to verify conformance with specifications and quality requirements. Leading troubleshooting and corrective actions for nonconformances.
- Identifying opportunities for process improvements, cost reduction, and enhanced productivity while maintaining compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
- Accurately documenting welding processes, procedures, build data and test results. Preparing reports and providing technical insights to support decision-making processes.
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams, including design engineers, integration engineers, technicians and quality assurance, to ensure seamless project execution.
Job Qualifications:
- A bachelor’s degree in Welding Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field is preferred. Relevant certifications in welding (e.g., AWS CWI, CSWIP) would be advantageous.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience as a Weld Engineer, or similar, in a manufacturing environment, with a proven track record of successfully executing welding projects.
- Strong knowledge of welding processes, metallurgy, and materials used in space applications.
- Specific experience in orbital tube welding, showcasing proficiency in this specialized technique.
- Expertise in working with various aerospace materials, such as titanium, aluminum, stainless steel, and exotic alloys, and an understanding of their unique welding requirements.
- Proficiency in non-destructive testing methods for welded joints.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a keen attention to detail.
- Deep commitment to adhering to safety protocols and ensuring a safe working environment for all team members.

- Pay Rate Range: $34 – $45/hr
- ITAR obligations are associated with this role, U.S. citizenship, U.S. legal permanent resident status, or protected person status under 8 U.S.C. § 1324b(a) (1), (3) is required.
