Position Title: Software Test Manager

Position Description: Protingent Staffing has an exciting direct hire opportunity for a Software Test Manager with our client located in Renton, WA.   

Job Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for leading, supporting, coaching, and developing personnel working on the radio and other embedded products.
  • Work closely with the development team and customers in identifying required software test infrastructure, tests and testing approaches.
  • Leads the architecture and implementation of the software test infrastructure to support Agile software development for embedded hardware products.
  • Ensures SW testing follows good practices for embedded systems
  • Participates in SW bug triage meetings
  • Oversees development of test plans, test cases, and test scripts.
  • Directs execution of functional and integration testing in accordance with test plans.
  • Communicate test results and status.
  • Evaluate the outcome of each test cycle and leads test review meetings.
  • Responsible for personnel management, including employment and performance management.
  • Responsible for successfully managing a multi-million dollar department budget.
  • Partners with the Product Manager; shared responsibility for the work plan and project expenses
  • Delivers on the work plan
    • Right staffing and resources
    • Impediments are addressed
    • Risks have mitigation
    • Know what team members are working on
    • Know what the tasks/user stories/features cost the company
    • Know what our labor $s are over the sprint
  • Work cross-functionally with business partners, architecture team members, vendors and other teams to ensure successful execution of the program.
  • Responsible for direction and oversight for vendor development activities.
  • Manage team development and/or reviews of product deliverables.
  • Act as a partner and mentor through one-on-one meetings, giving feedback, and coaching.
  • Mentor engineers to bring greatness to the table: ideas, code, tests, and culture.
  • Partner in the estimation process.
  • Identify opportunities to develop and implement process improvement initiatives.
  • Facilitate consensus building and manages issues and risks among railroad stakeholder groups.
  • Manage resources and resource conflicts as necessary to ensure work stream success.
  • Operates under minimal supervision, working to resolve complex problems and implement requirements related to existing and new company products.  The supervision will be from the Director of Product Development.
  • Has authority to make decisions within the scope of the tasks assigned as long as they conform to the guidelines of the company.  Proposed alternatives to existing methods and practices are welcomed and will be considered, but are subject to management approval.

Job Qualifications:
  • 3-5 years’ experience in managing a team of highly skilled software resources and vendors with a minimum of 4+ direct reports.
  • 5-7 years’ experience coming up through the ranks in complex software development projects.
  • Adept at understanding technical issues in order to assess project risk and facilitate their resolution.
  • Demonstrated experience managing a multi-million dollar budgets.
  • Experience defining and managing an area of responsibility with the ability to step in and take initiative.
  • Must demonstrate confidence in ability to manage highly skilled direct reports who may have a greater level of knowledge and higher compensation than this position.
  • Experience with complex automated systems test and integration.
  • Experience architecting overall software test system.
  • Experience with Agile software development and testing methodologies.
  • Experience using formal Test Management System, including requirements-to-test case tracking and defect management or equivalent.
  • Able to effectively motivate team members to set and achieve the corporate and individual goals.
  • Capable of adept navigation of a complex stakeholder environment including management of stakeholder expectations.
  • Possesses strong interpersonal, analytical, problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills with an ability to balance multiple priorities.
  • Excellent English written and verbal communication skills producing clear and unambiguous communications.
  • Ability to self-manage and exhibit grace under pressure.
  • Familiarity with multiple project development methodologies.
  • Ability to effectively communicate  goals, schedule, status, issues and risks to multiple levels both internal and external to the organization.
