Position Title: Principal Software Engineer
Position Description: Protingent Staffing has an exciting direct hire opportunity for a Principal Software Engineer with our client located in Seattle. This developer can work 100% remote anywhere in the US.
Job Responsibilities:
- As a Principal Software Engineer and engineering leader building a team, defining and executing the technical direction to build a growing platform for their customers, you will be the owner for an ambitious new application, advancing it from the current working concept to a scalable product, ready to go to market.
- Lead and deliver critical applications, breaking down complex problems to deliver streamlined solutions
- Operate as a technical leader with breadth and depth of knowledge for dependencies and limitations
- Be an expert in performance, scalability, architecture, and engineering standards
- Mentor engineers with the intent to guide them in advancing their skill and career with outcomes of increased productivity and effectiveness
- Design and implement software infrastructure, microservices, APIs, and UI components
- Deliver well documented systems that are self-sustaining, scalable and easy to audit
- Own initiatives from concept to delivery, utilizing good business judgment in making technology decisions and recommendations
- Develop and refine system-level designs and drive implementation via the larger team
- Specify and implement platform changes to achieve massive scalability
- Integrate the client's platform with third party systems
Job Qualifications:
- The ideal candidate will have the experience to thrive in a start-up, fast-paced, and high-energy environment and work independently.
- Previous experience and a passion for mentoring and adding to the career growth of engineers (Must Have and ideally 5yrs.+)
- Technical thought leadership and roadmap creation (ideally 5yrs.+ independently)
- 50% or more hands on coding in current role
- Previous experience with working with multiple stakeholders within a company
- Proficient Full Stack systems programming experience
- Proficient with AWS or Azure cloud-based software
- Proficient with Microservices
- 5 yrs.+ experience working w/ complex SW w/ large volumes of data, complex calculations, algorithms, and math-based development
- 3 yrs.+ of recent experience with relational and non-relational databases and Node.JS or similar backend framework
- Experience with any container-based development and best practices, Docker preferred
- Familiarity with REST or other API design/implementation
- Experience with web development - CSS, HTML, JavaScript and associated frameworks, Angular JS and Vue JS is currently used but not a requirement, if willing to learn their tech stack.
- Desire to be challenged in a fast paced, start-up, and growing environment with the opportunity to make a direct impact
- Flexible with vague requirements and adapt to potential changing priorities from leadership and customers, as the roadmap creator.
- Enthusiasm to learn and innovate in the infrastructure construction software space
- Ambition for learning and growing your technical skill set and expanding your use and exposure to new technology
- Previous exposure to R&D projects is ideal.
- Some experience with any 3D Modeling visualization, spatial mapping, or GIS development is highly preferred, (ideally 2 yrs.+) or strong interest in learning this space.

I joined Protingent in the Spring of 2021 as a sales intern, transitioning to a full-time Technical Recruiter after graduating from the University of Washington in June 2021. Initially, I focused on supporting our spaceflight clients, later expanding to industries such as sustainable energy and nuclear power. While I’ve broadened my recruiting scope, I’m still partial to aerospace engineering, especially anything related to propulsion technology.
My recruiting style focuses on individual candidate needs and relationship building. My philosophy is to lead with empathy and integrity. My favorite thing about recruiting is the opportunity to learn something new every day by talking to the most intelligent people/engineers, as well as the potential to impact critical industries at the staffing level.
When I’m not recruiting, I love spending time outdoors – hiking, camping, roller skating, reading in parks, and swimming in Lake Union (when the Seattle weather permits). I also enjoy thrift shops, sewing/up-cycling clothes, and shooting 35mm film.
