Position Description: Protingent has a Direct Hire opportunity for a Principal Aerospace Engineer with our client located in Seattle, WA
JOB RESPONSIBILITES
- Develop concepts and designs of nuclear thermal propulsion, fission surface power, and radioisotope heat source hardware
- Develop components and systems from the definition of system requirements, through design and development, manufacturing, test, verification and validation, and flight operations
- Proactively mentor junior engineers to encourage growth and ensure performance
- Define and enforce mechanical engineering processes across programs
- Analyze the performance of complex nuclear systems, creating models that tie together subsystems, each with their own requirements and performance characteristics, to understand dependencies and system performance
- Analyze the thermo-structural performance of components to assess the impacts of thermal loading, vibration, pressure, and other loads
- Create manufacturable design drawings and component specifications
- Provide mechanical expertise during planning and concept stages to concepts and proposals
- Develop test plans, design test infrastructure, and execute tests during development test campaigns
- Communicate with parts manufacturers and/or coordinate purchase of off-the-shelf hardware
- Document design decisions and write technical reports
- Provide engineering perspective to program management activities, estimate resource utilization and needs, and help build a program plan to manage the product development
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
- B.S. or M.S. in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or equivalent
- 10 or more years of experience, primarily within the aerospace engineering field
- Commitment to an inclusive and collaborative team environment
- Passion for advancing the commercial space industry and human spaceflight through technology development and nurturing the next generation of engineers
- Demonstrated ability to be self-motivated by proactively identifying, prioritizing, and executing tasks in a fast-moving environment
- Demonstrated ability to communicate technical information to high-level stakeholders and customers
- Experience designing safety-critical components in nuclear, aerospace, medical, or other highly regulated, high-consequence applications
- Experience in full life-cycle development (concept through verification) of mechanical system hardware within a complex system or product, with a strong preference for nuclear, power (electrical), or aerospace systems.
- Experience defining and executing system test campaigns, including data reduction and analysis
- Proficiency in assembly and component design in CAD (preferably NX)
- Proficiency in GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing)
- Proficiency in FEA/FEM for static, dynamic, and/or thermal analysis of mechanical systems (preferably in Simcenter 3D)
- Experience in hands-on hardware design, analysis, prototyping, fabrication, and assembly
